A - There are certain skin issues that can be improved in one appointment. Examples are clearing spider veins, improving acne marks and clearing some freckles and sun-spots.

A person visiting the Dominican Republic can benefit from our lower cost (compared to USA, Canada, Europe) and improve these types of skin issues while visiting the DR.

B - Many skin issues require multiple appointments spread out over months. Anti-Aging, clearing sun-damaged skin, improving collagen and looking younger or other age or sun related issues require multiple appointments scheduled over time.

Let's use clearing a tattoo as an example. At the first appointment the laser fades the tattoo. 4 weeks may be required for the skin to absorb the faded skin cells and before the skin is ready for the next appointment. This process may require 2 to 4 appointments spread out over a 2 or 3 months to clear the tattoo and be finished.

If a person lives in the Dominican Republic or spends months of time in this country it is very possible to plan laser skincare over time.

If you travel to Dominican Republic for trips several times each year, you can plan these ongoing appointments during each of your visits to the Dominican Republic and benefit from the lower cost.

The difference between medical/surgical use of lasers with cosmetic and anti-aging use of lasers

Medical/Surgical lasering: We do NOT use intense lasers such as Co2 to burn off deep layers of skin as when cosmetic surgeons perform laser surgery. This is called Ablation.  This type of intensive lasering literally vaporizes the top layers of skin, is painful and requires 6 months or longer of healing and recovery. This type of intense use of lasers is best done by a cosmetic surgeon who specializes in medical/surgical use of lasers.

As you can see, there is a difference between medical/surgical use of lasers with anti-aging and cosmetic use of lasers.

Our focus is anti-aging and looking younger and/or improve certain skin conditions such as acne marks.

What are the most common risks to laser skincare? People with light to medium skin color are the best candidates for skin laser because of the contrast between light skin and dark color such as sun-spots or freckles.

Assume your skin is black, removing dark tattoos can be risky because the laser may remove the dark color of skin as well as the dark ink of the tattoo. This can leave white spots.

For this reason we suggest people with dark or black skin avoid tattoo removal and limit use of lasers to improving the face such as making acne scars less noticeable or increase collagen to make skin look younger and more firm.

If you go in the sun and tan, it is best to stop and let the tan clear up and then start laser treatment. Staying out of the sun allows your tan to fade which enables the laser to more clearly target the coloration of skin damage. After laser treatment stay out of the sun for a month and going forward always use strong sun-block.

If you get laser skincare and clear your skin what happens if you continue going in sun? Here is the honest answer.

If a laser is used to clear your skin and you continue to go back in the sun the cleared spots may not come back, but new spots may develop over time. 

It is possible to clear sun damaged skin and continue to enjoy time in the sun by coming back for appointments a few times per year for more skin clearing as part of yearly ongoing maintenance.

An example is always using 50 SPF sun block and come back twice per year for skin laser maintenance to treat and clear any new sun damage early.

This is how you can enjoy improved skin while still spending time in the sun.

Pico Laser: This laser targets color in the skin such as freckles, sun-spots, melasma, spyder veins and acne marks. This laser can also be used with the carbon laser facial and also improve collagen so skin looks more full and healthy.

The laser hits the cells with color and dissolves them. The dead cells are absorbed into the body or may rise into a scab and flake off. 

New clear skin replaces the older discolored skin.

IPL Intense Pulse Light: This device targets the color red or brown. An example is clearing and fading freckles, sun spots and red spyder veins. This IPL device also targes hair follicles. The IPL heats the hair follicle causing it to die or weaken. The result can be permanent hair removal or slow hair growth that comes back weak, fine and easier to clear in the future.
