This page explains different typers of lasers and what they are used for. And, what our lasers can or cannot do.

Pigment:  This covers age, sun-damage, freckles, red or dark acne marks, red or dark small spider veins, eyebrow tattoo clearing, etc.

The Picolaser targets small spot sizes and can be used to clear specific spots such as freckles, sun-spots, acne marks, spider veins etc. This laser works by causing a microscopic sound shockwave as the laser hits the color in freckles, spots, spider veins etc. Same with eyebrow tattoos.

The sound shockwave breaks up skin cells with the color such as freckles and spots. This laser does not burn skin.

The Picolaser 1064 can be used to pass through the skin surface to affect deeper layers of skin. Examples are affecting skin cells that produce melasma, collagen, acne etc.

If the Picolaser 1064 is combined with Microneedling collagen production can be stimulated from deeper skin layers with the 1064 laser while also stimulating collagen at the surface with the Microneedling. Results can be fuller skin that makes lines and acne scars less noticeable.

When the Picolaser 1064 is used with Melasma, the plan is to affect the deeper skin cells that cause the melasma while also using a proven skin lightening cream on the skin surface.  When used alone cream offers limited results because it does not affect the deeper skin layers where melasma is created. This is why combining the Picolaser 1064 with proven skin lightening cream is  the more complete plan.

IPL - Intense Pulse Light:  This device can be used to affect larger areas of skin and clear sun and age damage such as freckles, sun-spots and also can clear smaller red colored spider veins.

Same as with the Picolaser, when IPL light hits the color in spots and freckles, those skin cells are destroyed and the color/melanin slowly rise to skin surface as dark spots. These dry and flake off like tiny scabs over a few weeks. The result is skin with fewer spots or freckles so looks more clear and younger.

This device can also kill bacteria that causes acne and is good to combine with the Picolaser. The plan is to kill acne causing bacteria and increase collagen to make acne scars less noticeable and also clear red or dark acne marks.

The IPL can also target hair follicles so over time and repeat appointments more hair follicles are killed resulting with less hair growth and any new hair growth is thin and less noticeable. And, takes much longer for hair to regrow. 

DIODE Laser: This is designed specifically for hair reduction and causes less pain than an IPL. The problem with a DIODE laser is the only service this is used for is hair reduction. If a beauty salon was to make hair reduction it's primary service it can make sense to invest in purchasing a diode laser. However, this type of laser does not fit well with an anti-aging/skin improvement type of service.

Ablation or Skin Resurfacting Lasers: We do not currently offer this type of laser service but is good for you to learn about.

These lasers such as ER YAG, Co2 and HALO target water in the skin. They cause water to vaporize. Your skin is made up of 97% water! So, as these lasers burn and vaporize water they also burn and vaporize your skin.

Here is an example for these medical/surgical lasers.  Imagine a person has very deep wrinkles and lines on their face. The only way to remove these wrinkles and deep lines is to vaporize and burn off several layers of skin.

As the new skin grows during a long healing process the skin is new so does not have the same wrinkles and lines. The result can be younger looking skin without the wrinkles and lines.

However, this is painful and imagine a face that looks red and burned and you do not want to go out on public for 3 to 6 months as the skin heals and gets back to normal.

Although this makes skin look younger for some years, the skin is still aging at the deeper layers. Sooner or later age takes over and the wrinkles and lines start to come back. But, many people will do this so they can have younger looking skin for a number of years and maybe redo this again as they grow even older with age.

Our Picolaser and IPL are designed to clear color issues such as age and sun damage, acne, spider veins, melasma and cause skin to produce more collagen. Increased collagen does make skin more full. So, the laser is not vaporizing or burning off skin to remove wrinkles, lines or acne scars, the plan is to cause skin to make more collagen. This causes skin to be more full so lines, acne scars and other issues are less noticeable.

Same as when coloring your hair, you must redo this from time to time. Keeping your skin clear from age or sun damage and maintaining higher levels of collagen to look younger requires an ongoing laser skincare plan.

Same as with hair, if you stop coloring it will slowly go back to gray. If you stop laser skincare over time the skin goes back to how it started. To maintain the positive benefits laser skincare becomes part of your lifestyle, same as getting hair colored or maintaining a certain diet.
